The Savanna La Mar General Hospital, in Westmoreland, is moving to construct a new building in an effort to increase its capacity.

This was revealed by Chairman of the Hospital, Eric Clarke, during an interview with the media last week.

The hospital was opened in 1964 with a capacity of 164 beds to serve a population of 110,000 Jamaicans.

However the population in the surrounding area has since increased by approximately 40,000 people.

Mr. Clarke says the design of the new facility is now being worked on.
