The Senate this afternoon approved a bill which proposes to implement wide ranging reforms to Jamaica’s Ganja laws.

Contributing to the debate in the Senate today, Justice Minister,  Mark Golding responded to concerns that the bill proposes to give him too much power in deciding who is allowed to grow ganja.

Opposition Senator Kamina Johnson Smith, while supporting the bill, recommended that the Government move towards legalizing the two ounces of Ganja, as opposed to current plan to merely decriminalize use of that amount.

Government Senator KD Knight expressed concern regarding a provision in the bill which proposes that Rastafarians be allowed to cultivate a select amount of Ganja.
