Opposition Spokesperson on Land, Environment and Climate Change, Senator Sophia Frazer-Binns, is suggesting that the Government suspend the environmental permit of bauxite company Windalco.
Her suggestion follows another fish kill at the weekend in the Rio Cobre due to effluent from Windalco’s operations in St. Catherine.
Several environmental groups have also increased their calls for immediate action to be taken against the company.
Senator Frazer-Binns is also urging the Government to fast-track the debate on the motion concerning the review of the Natural Resources Conservation Authority, NRCA, Act.
A motion she says has been tabled in the Senate for more than a year.
