Several children, some born in the United States, were among 57 Haitians deported to Haiti last Thursday.

The flight was the second to arrive in Haiti within a week, marking an increase from the roughly once-a-month schedule previously reported.

Haitian authorities confirmed that the group arrived in Cap-Haïtien aboard an ICE Air charter flight.

The accelerated removals come amid uncertainty surrounding protections for hundreds of thousands of Haitians in the United States.

The Trump administration has sought to end Temporary Protected Status for Haitians.

The designation has allowed more than 300,000 people to legally live and work in the United States because of conditions in their home country.

Immigrant rights organisations have argued that conditions in Haiti remain too dangerous for large-scale returns, given widespread gang violence, displacement and a worsening humanitarian crisis.

But The U.S. Department of Homeland Security maintains that conditions have improved sufficiently to allow them to return.
