Opposition Spokesman on Finance, Audley Shaw, today attacked the government’s strategy of devaluation of the Jamaican dollar.

His challenge came in today’s sitting of the Standing Finance Committee of Parliament.

Mr. Shaw argued that the devaluation contradicts the government’s stated intention of debt reduction.

Mr. Shaw also argued that the devaluation has had a negative impact on exports and investment in production activities.

Meanwhile,
There was confusion today over the level of debt the government is projecting for the end of the current fiscal year.

The confusion developed when Opposition Spokesman on Finance, Audley Shaw, sought answers from Finance Minister, Dr. Peter Phillips at the Standing Finance Committee.
