The Jamaica Defence Force, JDF, says the soldiers seen in a video circulating on social media, of a fatal shooting in central Kingston yesterday, have been removed from the area and are cooperating fully with investigations.

In a release this afternoon, the JDF says, it is to be noted that soldiers who are deployed into States of Public Emergency or Zones of Special Operations are exposed to human rights training prior to their deployment.

The JDF is encouraging anyone with information relative to the matter to make a report to INDECOM.

A confrontation occurred between members of the public and a group of soldiers at a checkpoint.

During the confrontation, a soldier reportedly discharged his weapon hitting a male.

The deceased has been identified as 24-year old, Terron Hewitt.

The incident occurred in the vicinity of a Kingston Central checkpoint on Laws Street.
