Jamaican and West Indies batting star Chris Gayle has pulled out of the inaugural Sri Lanka Premier League.

The T20 franchise-based competition is set to bowl off on November 26.

The hard-hitting Gayle was scheduled to turn out for the Kandy Tuskers, but the franchise, in announcing his withdrawal, says he gave no specific reasons for his decision.

Gayle is one of three of the tournament’s biggest names to pull out at last minute.

He’s joined by the Sri Lankan star, Lasith Malinga, who pulled out citing inadequate preparation time, while England’s Liam Plunkett also withdrew.

Two other Jamaicans, Andre Russell and Chadwick Walton, have signed up to play in the T20 tournament, that is facing a host of issues including player payments and contracts.
