The St Ann police have arrested a man suspected to have raped and murdered an eight-year-old girl in Discovery Bay in the parish on Saturday.
Dead is Talia Thomas.
The man was reportedly taken into custody after a failed suicide attempt.
Head of the St Ann Police Senior Superintendent Dwight Powell says the man, who is described as a family friend, took Talia from a neighbour’s house on Fortlands Road around 3:15 pm.
SSP Powell says after failing to shoot himself, the suspect was found by neighbours trying to stab himself to death.
SSP Powell has condemned the incident. He’s appealing to parents to be more vigilant.
