President of the St Catherine Chamber of Commerce, Dennis Robotham supports the government’s call for the resumption of States of Public Emergency SOEs.

Mr. Robotham said SOEs have been effective in alleviating tension in some communities.

But several business owners in Montego Bay, St. James say SOEs are not enough.

Speaking during Nationwide@5 yesterday afternoon Mr. Robotham said SOEs have successfully suppressed criminal activities in vulnerable communities. He said SOEs have shown results.

Mr. Robotham noted that SOEs have kept several communities calm. He added that SOEs have assisted in enforcing covid-19 safety measures in some communities.

But Chairman of the Crime and Security Committee of the Montego Bay Chamber of Commerce, Mark Kerr-Jarrett disagrees.

Mr. Kerr-Jarrett said SOEs are only plaster over a gushing wound.
