Head of the St. Catherine North Police Division, Senior Superintendent Marlon Nesbeth, says the police will be increasing operations to unprecedented levels.

His disclosure follows yesterday’s revelation by National Security Minister, Peter Bunting, that the traditionally tough Police Division is ‘almost entirely’ responsible for the more than 20-percent increase in murders.

SSP Nesbeth says the capture of Michael Morgan otherwise called ‘Tullus’ and his accomplice Ricardo Nicholas also known as ‘Stinger’ last Friday, marks the beginning of an intense operational response to the increase in murders in his division.

SSP Nesbeth says he’s receiving support from the Area and the High Command levels, and is satisfied with how they’re handling the problem.

He says Friday’s confrontation prompted the Police response.

The St. Catherine North Division has recorded twenty-one murders since the start of the year.

This is eighteen more than what was recorded for the corresponding period last year.

SSP Nesbeth is attributing most of the recent murders to gang conflicts.
