The usually quiet parish of St. Thomas has reported its first murder of 2018.

Dead is 41-year-old Otis Williams otherwise called ‘Carly’. He’s from an Old Harbour address in St. Catherine.

Mr. Williams was shot and killed by unknown assailants in Friendship Pen, St. Thomas on Tuesday.

The Morant Bay Police say Williams went to the area to allegedly dismantle a board house when he was pounced on and shot in the upper body. He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

St. Thomas is one of three parishes that recorded only 21 murders last year. That means there was a three-way tie for the parish recording the second lowest murder figure in 2017.

Trelawny and St. Mary are the other two parishes to record 21 murders. Portland, with 8 killings, recorded the lowest number of murders in the country last year.
