Residents and business owners are lamenting the relocation of the Martin Street police post in Spanish Town, St Catherine.

According to the residents, there have been an increase in the number of robberies in the area among other crimes.

They also say they’re fearing the worst for this Christmas season.

The residents who spoke with Nationwide News asked not to be identified but are appealing to the authorities for additional boots on the ground.

When our newsroom  contacted Head of Area 5 Police, Assistant Commissioner of Police, ACP, Gary Griffiths, he said Martin Street isn’t an area plagued by crime and violence and, he says, the police post is being relocated due to issues with the building.

But, ACP Griffiths is seeking to assure the residents that the police will be out in their numbers.
