A member of the Portland Environmental Action, Wilbourn Carr, is blasting the authorities for shuttering the roadway to access the Blue Lagoon in Portland.
Three years ago Blue Lagoon was made a national monument by the Jamaica National Heritage Trust, JNHT.
Since last year August it has been shut down and access has been cut off to the general public. That has meant the livelihoods of some 50 people in crafts, guiding, rafting and so on, have been affected negatively.

In the meantime, Chairman of the Portland Municipal Corporation, Paul Thompson, says the roads will remain closed until the proper facilities are put in place.
However, he says the JNHT has failed to provide a timeline as to when that will be done.

And President of the Blue Lagoon Alliance, Colin Beckford, says while his group is eager to have the facility re-opened, they also want the proper infrastructure in place including bathrooms.
