Financial Analyst and member of the Economic Programme Oversight Committee, Ralston Hyman, is urging the government and opposition to desist from making the $1.5-million tax break a political issue.
The move to increase the income tax threshold to $1.5-million was an election promise of the Holness Administration.
The Income Tax threshold for PAYE earners was increased to $1-million on July one with a further increase planned for April one next year.
Mr. Hyman who was critical of the original announcement by the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) prior to the February election says it would be counter productive to further criticize the tax break.
He was speaking at a Public Forum on the IMF and the Public Sector yesterday at the Hugh Lawson Shearer Trade Union Institute at the University of the West Indies Mona Campus.
