The Tax Administration Jamaica,TAJ, says it has exceeded its collection target for the month of August.
TAJ says the preliminary figures indicate that the Revenue Authority has collected $19.6-billion.
The administration says this was $400,000 more than the targeted sum of $19.2-billion.
TAJ says this is a result of the administration’s continued focus on compliance.
The compliance strategies included closer monitoring of monies owed that should have been paid through its Revenue Administration Information System, RAIS.
The administration says the other efforts included mandating several categories of tax payers to file online, noting that a system generated penalty of $5,000 per month per return for late filing would be applied.
TAJ says its net collections now stands at $106.4-billion.
The administration says the sum projected for the period was $100.2-billion.
