There was a near miss on Tuesday after a public passenger bus heading towards Lawrence Tavern from Constant Spring in St. Andrew, ran off the road and plunged into a gully.

The Toyota Hiace bus, with ten students on board, developed mechanical problems which prevented the driver from applying the brakes.

Eight of the passengers were treated at hospital for minor injuries.

Head of the Police Traffic Division, Senior Superintendent Calvin Allen says the accident could have been far worse.
