More pressure is being applied to members of the judiciary over the duration of sentences being handed down to criminals convicted for serious offences.

A strident Justice Minister, Delroy Chuck, says judges need to hand down sentences that can deter criminality.

The Justice Minister says the time for light sentences is over.

Minister Chuck says all the actors in the justice system, including Justices of the Peace, will have to stand up and be counted.
