Education Minister, Ronald Thwaites, says his ministry will make do with a 2-and-a-half billion dollar cut to its budget for the upcoming financial year.

The budget for education — as presented in the Estimates of Expenditure — for the forthcoming financial year is 81-point-3 billion; down from the 83-point-8 billion for this fiscal year which ends in March.

Mr Thwaites says improvements at the Early Childhood level will be a major focus.

In the meantime, the President of the Jamaica Teachers’ Association, Doran Dixon, says he’s noted the cut in the budget for education.
