Health and Wellness Minister Dr Christopher Tufton, says this weekend’s Vaccination Blitz exercise is to be a test, the result of which will indicate any potential difficulty in the nation achieving herd immunity by next year.

He says the aim is to vaccinate some 50-thousand people over the next four days in the COVID Vaccination Blitz programme.

Minister Tufton was speaking Today during a tour of the forty-bed field hospital at the Spanish Town Hospital.

The facility started accommodating COVID 19 patients Today.

Minister Tufton says he’s given all public health care facilities an order to scale down operations to only life saving procedures, in order to focus more on the inoculation of the target groups including teachers, people over 60-years old, tourism workers, immigration workers and other essential staff.

He says this weekend’s exercise will also give an indication on the willingness of Jamaicans to be inoculated.

He says not meeting the target, will indicate to the government the problems it will vaccinating enough people and be rid of the COVID 19 crisis.
