Opposition Spokesman on Justice, Delroy Chuck, is suggesting that the government use funds from the National Housing Trust, NHT, or the National Insurance Scheme, NIS, to construct a new prison.

Mr. Chuck has described the island’s two maximum security prisons as dungeons.

But he’s arguing that it’s the Jamaican government and not its UK counterpart to uphold the human rights of Jamaicans.

Meanwhile, Minister Bunting says the suggestion by Mr. Chuck about how a JLP administration would fund a new prison, reveals a poverty of ideas.

He was speaking at this morning’s Jamaica house press briefing.

Minister Bunting says the Opposition cannot complain about the viability of the NHT and then suggest that the fund provide the financing to build a new prison.
