The US Embassy in Kingston is temporarily unable to print visas, passports and other travel documents.

Anyone who applied for these documents after June 8 may not be getting it anytime soon.

The US State Department is reporting a technical problem with their overseas passport and visa systems around the world.

A statement from the State Department says there’s been a glitch in its security system which receives biometric information sent from overseas.

As a result, they’re unable to adequately screen applicants, causing a backlog in the processing of visa applications.

The State Department says its working urgently to correct the problem and restore full operability.

The US Embassy in Kingston says the issue is not specific to any particular country, citizenship document or visa category.

Non-immigrant visa applicants who did not apply online before June 9, are being advised to reschedule their interview appointments.

Meanwhile, those with urgent travel requirements should visit their website and follow the instructions for expedited emergency appointment.
