The University of the West Indies, Mona, says it’s undergoing strategic transformation to position itself as a greater contributor to economic growth of the country.

Vice Chancellor of the UWI, Professor Sir Hilary Beckles, says the university will play a critical role in helping to achieve the Economic Growth Council’s targeted 5-percent growth in 4 years.

Professor Beckles says through partnerships, the UWI will be driving innovative entrepreneurship in a number of modern and traditional sectors.

Professor Beckles says the UWI has already secured a partnership with China.

He says, through that partnership with China, UWI students will be acquiring practical skills they’ll bring back to the region to drive new levels of economic activity.
