The Kingston Western Police have launched a series of peace initiatives across several communities in the area in an attempt to reduce a flare up of violence.
The police division, which includes communities such as Tivoli Gardens, Denham Town, Arnett Gardens and Trench Town, has been plagued by incidents of shooting and murders in recent months.
The police say they’ve been able to put together a series of interventions which have helped to calm the flare up of violence in the communities.
SSP Michael Phipps heads the Kingston West Police.
The JCF’s crime statistics indicate that up to October 9 this year, there has been a 21 per cent increase in murders in the division and a 22-percent increase in shootings over the same period last year.
The division is second only to St. James, which has seen a near 40 per cent increase in murders.
SSP Phipps says the peace interventions have allowed for freedom of movement of citizens across areas which were previously in conflict.
