The World Health Organisation, WHO, has announced that COVID-19 is no longer a global health emergency.
The downgrade was announced on Thursday by Director General of the WHO, Dr. Tedros Adhanom.
He says the recommendation by the organization’s emergency committee was influenced by an increase in global immunity, a reduction in deaths and an easing of the pressure on health systems.
Dr. Tedros says the downgrade is not a signal that countries should drop their guard.
