The West Indies hold a 1-0 lead in their three match T20 International Series against South Africa, following a 28-run victory in the first game at Sabina Park on Thursday.

Stand-in captain Brandon King struck 79 from 45 balls, to steer the West Indies to 175 for 8 in their 20 overs.

King received support from Kyle Mayers, 34, and Roston Chase, 32, against three wickets each from Ottniel Baartman and Adile Phehlukwayo.

Captain Reeza Hendricks then cracked 87 from 51 balls in a virtual one man show as the Proteas fell for 145 in 19. overs.

Matthew Forde and Gudakesh Motie bagged three wickets, while Obed McKoy picked up two.

King says his knowledge of the local conditions played a big part in the victory.

Hendricks says his team did well in the first half of the game, but conditions changed in the second.

The second game is on Saturday also at Sabina Park starting at 2 pm.
