Three children and three adults were killed by a female shooter who carried two assault-style rifles and a pistol into an elementary school on Monday.
The incident happened in Nashville, the capital of the US state of Tennessee.
Officers shot and killed the attacker at Covenant School on the grounds of Covenant Presbyterian church.
The Nashville police chief said initial findings were that the woman was a former student at the school.
Lamenting what he called a heartbreaking attack, US President Joe Biden reiterated his call for Congress to pass meaningful gun control reform including a ban on assault weapons.
