The Statistical Institute of Jamaica, STATIN, is reporting that the country’s unemployment rate has fallen by nearly 3% , as at April this year.
This, when compared to the same period last year.
STATIN says the unemployment rate for April this year, was 13.6 %, compared to 16.3% in April last year.
That’s a 2.7% percentage point decline.
STATIN says in the same period, the unemployment rate for males and females declined.
Over the period, the unemployment rate for men dropped 12% to 10%. For women, it moved from 21.3 % to 17.4 %
There’s also been a decrease in youth unemployment.
According to STATIN, the unemployment rate among youths aged 14 to 24 years, was 33.6 % for April this year. A decrease of 4.9 % points when compared with 38.5% percent in April last year.
The latest employment data were released today by STATIN.
