Crime and Growth

Deputy Director General of the Planning Institute of Jamaica, PIOJ, Richard Lumsden, says the reduction in crime over the past four years will not have an immediate impact on economic growth.

Mr. Lumsden says between January to June this year, there was an 8-point-2 percent decrease in the murder rate – a continuation of the trend of reduced serious crimes.

He says as information about the decreasing levels of serious crimes is spread, and as the reduction is sustained, the impact on growth will gain traction.

Richard Lumsden, Deputy Director General of the PIOJ, speaking with Nationwide News.
