The Portia Simpson Miller administration has announced a hike in bus fares for commuters who use the state run Jamaica Urban Transit Company, JUTC.
Effective this Sunday, fares for adult passengers will move from 1-hundred-dollars, to $120; a 20% increase.
Children, students and the disabled will be required to pay $30; 50% more than the previous fare.
Senior citizens have been hardest hit.
They’ll now be required to pay a whopping 2-hundred percent more, as their fare has increased from 20- to-60-dollars.
Transport Minister, Dr. Omar Davies, made the announcement at his Ministry’s Maxfield Avenue head office this morning.
Dr. Davies says Cabinet decided to grant the increase after extensive consideration.
