Health Minister, Dr. Fenton Ferguson is on his way to the Mandeville Hospital in Manchester, to offer counseling to members of staff who’ve been affected by a shooting incident at the facility early this morning.
Nationwide News understands that a male patient was shot and killed by the police on the Male Surgical Ward at the hospital, about 3-this morning.
Its understood that the patient got into a physical altercation with another male patient, forcing hospital staff to summon the police.
Reports are that the police responded swiftly but could not get the aggressor to calm down and comply with their instructions.
Its understood the man repeatedly tried to attack the other patient and then turned his anger at the police when they attempted to thwart his efforts.
Our sources say during the altercation with the police, the man was shot and killed.
Minister Ferguson should by now have arrived at the hospital, after leaving a stakeholders meeting at the Pegasus Hotel in New Kingston.
