Parliament Pays Tribute to Sir Howard Cooke

A joint sitting of both houses of parliament is now underway as members pay tribute to the late former Governor General, Sir Howard Cooke.

Sir Howard, who had been ailing for some time, died on Friday, July 11 at the age of 98.

In leading the tributes, Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller said Sir Howard was a man who through his work, was able to offer comfort, guidance and empowerment to a Jamaican people now mourning his passing.

The second of 18 scheduled tributes was delivered by the Opposition Leader, Andrew Holness.

Mr. Holness says Sir Howard was a servant par excellence.

Sir Howard will be accorded a state funeral on Friday, August 8 at the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Kingston.

The funeral service will start at 10am and interment will follow at the National Heroes Park.
