Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Dr. Kasan Troupe, says the majority of the over 700 students at Hydel High have been registering at Cumberland High following the merger of both institutions.

The government announced in June that Hydel would be merged with Cumberland. The move was due to challenges associated with Hydel’s crumbling infrastructure and low attendance at Cumberland.

The government has been helping with the bills at Hydel High, a private institution, for some time.

When pressed on a potential name change of the merged institution, Dr. Troupe says the ministry has prepared a cabinet submission.
