Police in Portland have arrested eleven would-be robbers, including four women, following a botched hit on a Western Union branch in Hope Bay on Monday morning.

Nationwide’s Portland correspondent, Winston Malcolm revealed the details on Cliff Hughes Online.

Mahiri Stewart has that story.

According to Malcolm, the incident began as early as 2am as the armed robbers set their sights on the Western Union branch in Hope Bay.

He says the robbers were met with resistance from the armed security guard at the branch, the owner and lawmen.

Explaining the extent of the injuries suffered by the gunmen, Malcolm says lawmen accosted two women near the scene who they believed were involved in the incident.

He says the women were the mother and girlfriend of one of the gunmen.

Malcolm says one gunman died in the incident while two others were hospitalised.

He told host Cliff Hughes that the branch has become a hotspot for robbers.
