The government is to spend $150-million on this year’s independence celebrations.
The update was provided by Culture Minister Olivia “Babsy” Grange at a Post Cabinet press briefing this morning.
The Minister says one hundred and $27-million will be provided by the Government, with approximately $15-million coming from the private sector.
Minister Grange is lamenting what she considers a lower than normal contribution by the private sector.
The Minister also announced that Independence Grand Gala tickets will be available this Friday.
And Minister Grange has announced that the annual Independence Day Parade will be dropped from the programme this year.
She says this will facilitate its revision and return for Jamaica 55 celebrations.
Minister Grange says a more formal event will take it’s place at King’s House.
