The number of people killed in confrontations with the security forces since the start of the year is inching closer to the 200 mark.

The Independent Commission of Investigations, INDECOM, reports that between January 1 and August 21, 191 people have been killed in encounters with the security forces.

The figure is 10 fewer than the 201 killed in the corresponding period in 2025.

Since the start of August, 12 people have died in fatal police shootings.

The latest incident was reported on Friday at 14 Robert Close in St. Andrew.

The deceased was a wanted man believed to be part of a gang operating in St Andrew Central Police Division was killed. He’s been identified as Marlon Wayne Huntley, otherwise called ‘Brando’ and ‘Parri’.

Huntley was reportedly killed during an operation involving a police team of more than 100 personnel.

Nationwide News understands that Huntley is a prominent member of the Dwayne Grant-led faction of the Ambrook Lane gang and a known extortionist within the Half Way Tree business district.

He was previously charged with robbery with aggravation, murder, illegal possession of a firearm and conspiracy.

The 38-year-old was reporting at Half-Way Tree Police Station as a condition of bail.
