The Department of Correctional Services, DCS, is reporting that 36 new positive, COVID-19 cases, were recorded at the South Camp Adult Correctional Centre, in the last 24 hours.

The DCS says of the 81 persons tested, 28 inmates and 8 staff members were positive for COVID19.

In a statement released today, Director of Medical Services in the department, Dr.Donna-Michelle Royer-Powe, says health personnel visited the facility last week.

Dr. Donna-Mitchell says the objective of their visit was to review the existing protocols at the facility.

They also plan on making recommendations, that would help to manage the spread of COVID19 within the inmate population.

She says the recommendations made are now in effect.

Meanwhile, she says the tests conducted last week, revealed 5 new cases.

Dr. Royer-Powe noted that those 5 positive cases, then triggered swabs to be done for 81 more persons.

She says the department has a consultative approach to managing the pandemic.

Presently, there are 39 active cases and 10 staff cases in the department.
