Economist and Executive Director of the Caribbean Policy Research Institute, CAPRI, Dr. Damian King, is lauding the government for not attempting to score cheap election votes through unsustainable programmes as part of its budget spend.
As part of his budget analysis last week, Dr. King says he was pleasantly surprised by the government’s ability to resist the election-year grand promises.
Dr. King commended the government for putting forward a credible and sustainable budget for the current fiscal year.
However, he noted that in real terms spending on most critical aspects, such as national security and health care, has actually gone down.
But Dr. King says the government must keep focused on debt reduction despite growing calls to change course.
