The government says residents displaced by the Coopers Pen demolition in Trelawny are being assessed and directed towards the relevant state sponsored programme, based on their individual circumstances.
Labour and social security minister, Pearnel Charles Jr., provided the update during an interview with the Jamaica Information Service on Wednesday.
His comments follow a protest by Coopers Pen residents over the weekend.
Some of the placard-bearing residents declared that they’ve been at the location for over 30 years. One resident even demanded that the people be given back “possession of their land”.
The early morning demolition two weeks ago left more than 40 families displaced.
The government had provided them with food supplies, toiletries, temporary shelter supplies, beds, tents and lighting equipment.
Minister Charles Jr. says those who might not have been given any assistance should visit his ministry’s parish office.
