Three firefighters are nursing injuries sustained while fighting a massive fire that broke out at Superior Honda Parts on Hagley Park Road in St. Andrew on Thursday afternoon.
Local government minister, Desmond McKenzie, has commended the Jamaica Fire Brigade, JFB, for its swift and sustained response to the blaze.
He says the injured firefighters were treated at the hospital. Their injuries are not life-threatening.
Minister McKenzie notes that before the fire at the Hagley Park Road business place, the JFB was hard at work in the hills of Mavis Bank in St. Andrew battling bush fires.
It’s unclear when the fire started.
But smoke was observed in the Hagley Park Road area just after midday.
Videos posted online showed thick black smoke rising from the intense flames that engulfed the building.
The blaze forced the closure of sections of Hagley Park Road, one of the busiest corridors in the corporate area.
Hagley Park Road is known as Jamaica’s auto parts heartbeat, with numerous shops and motor vehicle dealer outlets populating the two-mile long stretch.
The fire also impacted several neighbouring businesses and even residences in the area.
