Police Commissioner Dr Kevin Blake says there will be an increase in the frequency of high visibility patrols and targeted operations across the island for the remainder of the year.
The Jamaica Constabulary Force, JCF, says 439 murders were recorded between January 1 and October 31. That’s 131 fewer than the 570 recorded during the corresponding period of 2025.
It represents an overall decline of 23 per cent. If the trend continues, Jamaica will see its fourth consecutive year of a decline in murders.
Commissioner Blake says the country cannot afford to lose the gains made.
He made the remarks in a video posted to the JCF’s Instagram account on Thursday morning.
Meanwhile, Commissioner Blake is urging Jamaicans to play closer attention to their personal safety as the yuletide season approaches.
