Two employees of the agriculture ministry have been awarded scholarships worth $9 million each under the government’s FACE Scholarship to pursue advanced studies in agriculture.
Portfolio minister Floyd Green made the announcement at a ceremony held at his ministry’s headquarters in St. Andrew on Tuesday.
FACE stands for Food security, agribusiness development, climate smart technologies and export expansion.
The programme was launched in 2025 and provides postgraduate scholarships which support advanced academic training that drives agricultural transformation.
The two recipients will be studying at the University of Guelph in Canada.
One recipient will be doing a Master of Animal Biosciences, specialising in animal genetics and breed. The other will be doing a Master of Plant in Agriculture, specialising in plant genetics and breeding.
Minister Green sought to emphasise the importance of investment in these fields.
Meanwhile, the government will be awarding scholarships to the top-performing Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate male and female agricultural student in each parish to attend the College of Agriculture, Science and Education CASE.
