Police Commissioner, Major General Antony Anderson, will begin his first day on the job at 8:00 this morning.
The retired Chief of Defence Staff and former National Security Advisor is the third one-time member of the JDF to hold the post.
Speaking at Jamaica House yesterday, Prime Minister Andrew Holness expressed absolute confidence in Major-General Anderson.
He says the Major General will leave behind a legacy of talented and skilled police officers.
Meanwhile, National Security Minister Robert Montague is also urging both members of police force and citizens of Jamaica to give Police Commissioner Anderson their full support.
Major General Anderson replaces former Commissioner of Police, George Quallo, who demitted office in February. Deputy Commissioner of Police, Clifford Blake, has been acting in the position.
