Prime Minister Andrew Holness is calling for global economic unity as the COVID-19 pandemic threatens sustainable development.

The Prime Minister made the call this afternoon while addressing a virtual media briefing alongside Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and UN Secretary-General, António Guterres.

The Prime Minister says only global action can minimize the economic fallout of the pandemic.

Prime Minister Holness says any form of isolation will not serve the global good.

He says cooperation is key.

COVID-19 has represented the greatest existential threat to global economic development since the great depression in the early 1930s.

In addressing a United Nations Panel on COVID19, Prime Minister Holness says international consensus supports more assistance for the vulnerable.

The Prime Minister was joined by his Canadian counterpart, Justin Trudeau, who says work in the coming weeks will be focused on sustainable COVID-19 recovery.

Meanwhile, UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, called for greater solidarity between developed and developing countries.
