A decision is to be made today on whether or not a festival song competition will be held using the three songs which were identified by the judges as being suitable to go forward.

Culture Minister Olivia Babsy Grange will take the matter to cabinet for the decision.

Chairman of the Jamaica Festival Song Committee, Orville Hill says they’ve identified three song entries out of the 123 submitted for the Jamaica Festival Song competition, that will be a part of Jamaica’s 60th Independence celebration.

Miss Grange is disappointed that there will be no competition.

The Minister emphasised that quality productions are needed as Jamaica is a global brand.

Miss Grange asked if there is a desire for a competition with ten songs of inferior quality.
