Prime Minister Andrew Holness says the challenges being faced in the Caribbean since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic reinforce the value of the Africa-CARICOM relationship.
He was speaking this morning at the Plenary Session of the first staging of the Africa-Caricom Summit.
The virtual event was chaired by President of Kenya, His Excellency Uhuru Kenyatta, under the theme ‘Unity Across Continents and Oceans: Opportunities for Deepening Integration’.
Mr. Holness expressed his appreciation of the Union’s provision of Covid-19 vaccines to the Caribbean.
The summit follows on the Declaration by the African Union of the Diaspora as the sixth region of Africa and featured Heads of State and Government of the Caribbean Community as well as the African Union.
Prime Minister Holness says plans were in place to continue exchange visits with African leaders prior to the pandemic.
Mr. Holness further noted that there’s potential for Jamaica to benefit in the agro-industry and logistics sector.
