Minister of National Security, Dr. Horace Chang, has reiterated that Jamaicans have no reason to be fearful of the Third Country National, TCN, deal the government has signed with the United States.
The first group of 22 TCNs, predominantly from Latin American countries, including Ecuador and Honduras, arrived in Jamaica on Tuesday.
The group was transported from Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston to accommodation designated by the International Organization for Migration, IOM.
The ministries of National Security and Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, in a statement, outlined that the IOM has now assumed responsibility for the group’s care.
The IOM will also facilitate their return to their respective countries.
Before their arrival, Opposition Spokesman on National Security, Fitz Jackson, again called for the government to disclose the MOU governing the deal.
Jackson has rejected the government’s argument that the US disagrees with publicising the document.
Dr. Chang says the government has already outlined the critical components of the agreement.
