Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Jacquiline Bisasor McKenzie says hospitals, other stakeholders, and members of the public should now be on alert for a surge in COVID 19 cases.

Dr. Bisasor McKenzie says hospitals should be reconsidered scheduling any elective surgeries at this time.

She says there are just over 700 beds across the public health sector dedicated to COVID 19 patients.

And she says many of the beds dedicated to COVID 19 patients were those which were previously being used for other health cases.

The CMO says there are also concerns about an increase in the dependence of ventilators and oxygen in hospitals.
