The cousin of an 8-year-old boy who was killed during a shooting in Burgher Gully, Kingston, says the deadly violence resulted from a community conflict.

Eight-year-old, DJ Dawes, and 34-year-old construction worker, Joel Lemmonius, were shot and killed after gunmen opened fire at a house on Sunday night in the Kingston East area.

The cousin wished to remain unidentified.

Reports from the police are that DJ and Joel were among a group of people in the community, when sometime after 10PM, armed men opened fire at the group.

DJ and Joel were subsequently found with gunshot wounds.

Two other persons were injured during the attack. They are still receiving treatment in the hospital.

DJ’s cousin says while he was rude, he was also playful.
