A police constable attached to the Motorized Patrol Division has been charged under the Corruption Prevention Act for soliciting money from a driver to drop a traffic offence.

According to the Major Organized Crime and Anti-Corruption Agency, MOCA, Constable Odain Evans, cited a motorist for breaches of the Road Traffic Act on Molynes Road in July 2012.

It’s alleged the Constable solicited $2,000 from the motorist.

A report was made to the then Anti-Corruption Branch.

An investigation was conducted and a file submitted to the Director of Public Prosecutions, who ruled that Constable Evans be charged with one count of Corruptly Soliciting.

Evans was offered bail in the sum of $250,000 with surety when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court.

He’s to be tried on July 29.
