Work on the building was expected to be completed by 2020, but was delayed by the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Dr Tufton stated that major effort was put into the project over the Christmas holidays to get the second phase of the project to its current stage.

He said the hope is to commence the final phase within the first quarter of the year.

He added that while the project is still at a delicate stage, Cornwall Regional is expected to become a significant health institution in Jamaica.
